Windsor police arrested a 40-year-old man Tuesday following a five-hour standoff at a home in Walkerville.

The incident began just before 9 a.m. when officers with the repeat offender parole enforcement (ROPE) squad attempted to execute an arrest warrant at a residence in the 700 block of Chilver Road.

Police said the man refused to comply when told to exit the residence.

It was then that police secured a perimeter around the property and brought in the Windsor police emergency services unit. Negotiators began speaking with the man in an attempt to peacefully end the standoff.

It took five hours to talk the man out of the home. He eventually surrendered and was arrested without further incident, according to police.
