A Windsor man won the $1-million Brentwood Dream Home Lottery grand prize Saturday at the recovery home’s packed hall for the big draw.

Amid a flurry of balloons, confetti, and cheers from a large group of spectators inside the event hall, David Taylor received some life-changing news via a phone call from officials.

“Wow, that’s amazing,” Taylor said over the phone above the crowd.

The grand prize, a 2,000-square-foot home in the new Brittany’s Gate development in Amherstburg, built by NOR-Built Construction, has three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms.

It was built over the past year for the 33rd annual fundraising lottery.

“Brentwood and the Brentwood Lottery have been a pillar in the community for many years,” NOR-Built owner Norbert Bolger said in a statement. “We are thrilled to have been asked to be part of this project again this year and for helping make a dream home a reality for someone today.

“We specialize in custom designed and built homes and this year’s winner has won a very nice home.”

Final figures weren’t available Saturday but Paul McCann, Brentwood’s fundraising specialist and the emcee for the event, confirmed the lottery set a new single-day record, surpassing $100,000 in ticket sales.

“Windsor-Essex residents really step up to the plate and help us year after year,” Brentwood executive director Elizabeth Dulmage told the Windsor Star. “We are very grateful for everything that the community has done for us and we will keep doing our best for those who need our programs and services.”

Twenty-one winners were announced Saturday, including Windsor resident Vera Drude, who could not believe she won the $111,965 50/50 jackpot.

“Oh my heaven,” Drude said.

Windsor’s Robert Leithwood claimed the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox Rs, Melanie Miller of LaSalle became the new owner of a 2025 Jeep Compass Sport, and Kingsville’s Mike Jones will soon be handed the keys to a 2025 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid.

The treatment centre awarded an extra $60,000 to Windsor’s Gloria and Gordon Freeman in celebration of Brentwood’s 60th anniversary.

Lottery winners were awarded more than 80 prizes, including four early-bird draws of $25,000 each, and 21 main draw prizes.

“A lottery win is something we all dream about and one of the best parts about working at Brentwood is awarding these prizes,” Dulmage said.

“The proceeds help transform lives and the dollars raised help fund out critical programs and services.”
