‘When the Stars Gossip’, Netflix’s new show which was been largely billed as Lee Minho’s comeback K-drama in years, has been facing severe criticism for its bland script and direction, ever since its premiere. And after the release of episodes 5 and 6 over the weekend, the K-drama has found itself on the wrong side of the internet yet again. The problem emerges from a controversial dialogue that isn’t going down well with fans.

It is known the show’s premise revolves around South Korea’s IOU Space launching Expedition 3, a new mission set in the advanced zero-gravity laboratory at the space station. The main goal is to attempt mating, pregnancy, and breeding in mice to find a breakthrough in human reproduction in space. Lee Minho plays Gong Ryong, an OB-GYN forced to be a space tourist by his chaebol fiancee’s father.

In the latest episode, Minho’s character Gong Ryong while reassuring his commander Eve Kim (Gong Hyo-jin) about the potential mating of two mice says, “When it comes to s*x and pregnancy, I’m the expert.” Viewers were quick to express their discontent over the unnecessary and inappropriate usage of the word ‘s*x, finding it offensive towards obstetricians and gynecologists.

A user on a South Korean social media forum condemned the dialogue writing, “Did you learn the word ‘s*x’ recently? Why do you keep saying it from the first week of the drama? The lines aren’t witty or funny, it’s just weird.” Another asked, “What the heck is that line?” One more questioned, “Is the writer in his right mind?”

Meanwhile, one more added, “This is an insult to obstetrician/gynecologist.” Also, a user sighed for, “escaping the drama after watching only two episodes.”

‘When the Stars Gossip’ will return with episodes 7 and 8 this weekend on Netflix.
