Tripura police have busted an interstate criminal gang in a raid conducted in Dharmanagar in north Tripura. Police said the arrested youths are residents of Samastipur in Bihar.

The raid, which took place on Saturday (January 25, 2025) at a hotel in Dharmanagar, resulted in the arrest of Neeraj Kumar and Inder Kumar. The police recovered a foreign-made point 32 pistol and a loaded magazine from their possession.

A district police officer has stated that they have established contact with their counterparts in Samastipur to coordinate the investigation. During the interrogation, it was discovered that both Neeraj Kumar and Inder Kumar had a criminal history.

The police have registered a case under Sections 25, 27 and 111(1) of the BNS at the Dharmanagar police station.

Latest arrests were made following the capture of an armed Bangladeshi suspect in Agartala on January 22. The suspect, identified as Samajpriyo Chakma, is a resident of Khagrachari in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and was found to be in possession of a 9 mm pistol as well as currency from both India and Bangladesh.

The arrests ahead of Republic Day observance in Tripura created security concerns in the State.
