The Windsor Lancers men’s hockey team continues to move up.

The Lancers made it five OUA wins in a row on Saturday with a 5-4 road win over the Toronto Varsity Blues.

With the win, the Lances moved to within a point of top spot in the West Division, which is currently a three-way tie between Western, Lakehead and Toronto Metropolitan, which lost 3-2 in overtime to Windsor on Friday.

On Saturday, Keegan McMullen, who had three points, scored his second goal of the game on a Windsor power play with just over eight minutes left in regulation to snap a 4-4 tie.

Alex Cunningham, Matt McNamara and Kirk Mullen also scored single goals for the Lancers (7-5-0) while goalie Nathan Torchia was solid with 33 saves against the Varsity Blues (7-6-0).

Meanwhile, the women’s team beat the York Lions 4-2 at the Capri Complex and now has 11 of a possible 12 points in the last six games.

Rylee Hogan, Makayla Mailhot, Elissa Benjamin and Bridget Cameron scored single goals for the Lancers (7-2-1-1) against York (4-5-1-0).

Flyers keep rolling

The Leamington Flyers made it 14 wins in a row on Sunday with a 5-1 win over the Caledon Admirals at Nature Fresh Centre.

Colton Smith and Gavin Grundner each had a goal and two assists for the Flyers (22-2-2-1), who boast the best record in the Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Mason Landry, Brody Cook and Michael Denney added single goals against the Admirals (2-21-0-0).

Vipers fall short

The LaSalle Vipers dropped a tight 2-1 decision at home to the Elmira Sugar Kings in Western Conference play in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League on Sunday.

Jak Thiessen had the lone goal for the Vipers (14-6-0-0) against the Sugar Kings (11-9-3-0).

Canadiens need OT

The Lakeshore Canadiens needed overtime to squeeze out a 3-2 road win over the Dresden Kings on Sunday.

The win allowed the Canadiens (16-2-0-0) to remain in a first-place tie with the Essex 73’s atop the Bill Stobbs Division standings in the Provincial Junior Hockey League.

Trevor Larue scored his second goal of the game just 58 seconds into overtime to lift the Canadiens with Kyle Kelly scoring Lakeshore’s other goal against the Kings (5-13-1-0).

On Saturday, Jaydon Ferguson and Kyle Bleau scored single goals for the Wheatley Sharks (10-9-0-0) in a 6-2 loss to the Blenheim Blades (8-7-2-0).

Lancer basketball swept

The Windsor Lancers women’s basketball team watched a 30-point lead at halftime disappear in an 80-71 loss to the Toronto Metropolitan Bold on Saturday in OUA basketball action. The Windsor men’s team also fell to the Bold by a 91-62 count.

Kali Grootenboer had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Lancers (5-3) while Maggie Denys also finished with 13 points for Windsor against the Bold (5-2). Isabella Anes finished with 12 points, Julia Chiarot added 11 points and Reine Ndome chipped in with 10 points.

The men got 11 points from Lorenzo Barbieri against the Bold (6-1) while Yohann Sam aded 10 points for the Lancers (3-5).

Saints basketball splits

The St. Clair Saints men’s basketball team remains unbeaten in OCAA play  after a 99-59 win over the Fanshawe Falcons on Saturday at the SportsPlex. However, the women’s team fell 74-55 to the Falcons.

John Masters had 24 points to lead the men’s team while Mazin Tiea finished with 13 points for the Saints (6-0) and Amari Frye adding 13 points against the Falcons (2-6).

The women’s team got 12 points from Kaelyn Batten while Shae-Lyn Murphy finished with 11 points for the Saints (2-3) against the Falcons (4-3).
