The iPhone SE 4 is rumored to arrive in the coming days, and if we were to believe the reports in the media, the device could prove to be the biggest disruptor in the smartphone market in a long time. While Apple is traditionally associated with high-end, expensive devices, the iPhone SE has been an outlier with its pricing; serving as an affordable pathway into the Apple ecosystem. While the previous SE 3 sported a dated design and lackluster hardware for the most part, the SE 4 will aim to change all of that. Let’s take a closer look at what makes this device is so special and why it makes sense.

The iPhone SE 4 pricing is just right

If we were to believe the reports in the media, the phone will retail in the $500 price range, putting it squarely against some of the upper mid-range android devices. While the mid-range and the upper mid-range segments have always been dominated by Android devices, the new iPhone SE 4 would do well to disrupt the status quo and take a share out of the Android pie.

While the pricing is certainly attractive, it will also offer a chance for Apple devices to be democratized among the people; something which is an uncharted territory for Cupertino. However, given the high-quality nature of Apple products, it will be good to see people opting for mid-range devices also have a chance to experience a great product for a relatively reasonable price. This would also force Android manufacturers to up their game and offer better quality products.

The iPhone SE 4’s camera is no slouch

While the pricing is certainly attractive, the camera on offer is straight out of the latest iPhones. Reports suggest the iPhone SE 4 will sport a single 48MP sensor, and if that’s the case then it will surely be among the best cameras in the segment. However, there’s no confirmation whether this sensor is a new sensor specially for the SE or if its picked out from the current iPhone 16.

Nonetheless, iPhone 16’s 48MP shooter boasts 4k video recording capabilities as well as PDAF and sensor-shift OIS. This is a major bump up from the outgoing SE model which had a 12MP camera on offer.

An all-new design to elevate the phone’s looks

While the phone does have all the bells and whistles when it comes to cameras, the iPhone SE 4 will also feature an overhauled design, much like the iPhone 14. The old device featured a design identical to the iPhone 8, which boasted thick bezels as well as a 4.7-inch LCD screen and Touch ID. However, all of that will change drastically.

The iPhone SE 4 will feature an updated design in line with the iPhone 14. This means the phone will sport a modern-looking form factor. There’s rumors that the device will offer a 6.1-inch 60Hz OLED display, while also doing away with Touch ID in favor of Face ID. Much like the iPhone 14, the SE will also feature a notch, though some rumors suggested the phone will boast Apple’s Dynamic Island instead. Naturally, this would also mean an upgraded battery capacity.

Apple A18 Chipset and AI

While the iPhone SE variants were always seen as the cheapest iPhones, one thing the phones didn’t skimp on was the chipset. SE variants always boasted the latest chipset at the time of their release. It’s expected that the SE 4 will follow a similar pattern. Apple’s A18 chipset will power the device, according to several sources.

Why is this significant? Because Apple’s A18 chipset is their most cutting-edge SoC yet, and offers a lot more than just smooth day-to-day use and lots of processing power. Most significantly, the chipset will enable the iPhone SE 4 to support Apple’s bespoke AI suite known as Apple Intelligence. Apple Intelligence offers a variety of capabilities and also boasts ChatGPT integration.

With the latest chipset in tow, users in the price range will be able to use Apple’s latest and greatest features while not burning a hole in their pocket, relatively speaking. Like we said before, it will push manufacturers in the segment to innovate and elevate their game.

With all these features on offer, the iPhone SE 4 stands out as a no-brainer in the segment as things stand. Featuring a state-of-the-art camera, the latest chipset, a refreshed design and Apple’s stellar build quality, the device will offer insane value for its relatively cheaper price. Still, it’ll be interesting to see the reaction from the tech world once the device is officially released by Apple. However, one thing’s for sure, it’s bound to shake the status quo, and we’re all for it.
