On October 16, James Gunn shared Krypto the Superdog will appear in his upcoming film ‘Superman‘ which is slated to release in 2025. The director unveiled Krypto’s first look from ‘Superman’ and revealed how it was inspired by his own dog Ozu.
The announcement was made in honour of October being Adopt a Shelter Dog month. He shared the first look of Krypto and wrote in the caption, “Krypto was inspired by our dog Ozu, who we adopted shortly after I started writing Superman. Ozu, who came from a hoarding situation in a backyard with 60 other dogs & never knew human beings, was problematic to say the least. He immediately came in & destroyed our homes, our shoes, our furniture – he even ate my laptop.”
“It took a long time before he would even let us touch him. I remember thinking, “Gosh, how difficult would life be if Ozu had superpowers?” – and thus Krypto came into the script,” added Gunn.
Fans shared their excitement to see Krypto on screen in 2025.

Krypto the Superdog from Superman’s home planet Krypton has appeared in many animated DC films. Now, he is set to make his live-action debut in Gunn’s ‘Superman‘ starring David Corenswet in the lead role. David’s first look as Superman was released in May this year. The James Gunn directorial film is slated to be released in July 2025.
