‘Significant damage’ to Windsor fourplex hit second time by fire

A vacant fourplex west of downtown Windsor experienced “significant damage” in a fire Wednesday night, according to officials, the second fire at the property in less than five months.
Windsor Fire and Rescue Services crews responded to the blaze in the 100 block of Cameron Avenue near Riverside Drive West around 8 p.m.
Flames, visible from the roof and second floor of the building, lit up the night sky until fire crews were able to knock them down.

“It’s pretty well destroyed,” said chief fire prevention officer Mike Coste. “We’ve got a complete collapse of the roof.
“There’s significant damage.”
Crews extinguished the flames but not before the fire spread, causing “significant” damage to an adjacent home.
Coste said investigators with the Windsor Police Service arson unit, along with fire department investigators, were on scene Thursday morning working to determine the cause of the fire.
A drone could be seen flying over the heavily damaged buildings.
There were no injuries reported. A family was displaced from the adjacent home.
A damage estimate was not available as of Thursday but Coste said he believed the fourplex will most likely need to be torn down.
The multi-unit building previously caught fire just four months ago.

Windsor fire and rescue crews were dispatched around 4:30 a.m. on Sept. 6 to fight the blaze.
That fire displaced eight people and damages were estimated at $950,000.
Coste said the cause was deemed undetermined.
