People should consider postponing non-essential travel, Environment Canada said.
A news release from the city said a snow event may be declared if more than five centimetres falls, adding that contracted graders will help clear priority streets within 72 hours.
“Crews will closely monitor road conditions and address snow and ice along priority streets and busy intersections. However, strong winds may blow sand and salt off treated surfaces, potentially leading to icy spots as temperatures drop,” the release said.
Drivers are asked to give graders and snowplows a wide berth so they can operate safely.
Environment Canada said conditions are expected to improve by midday Saturday.
