Saskatoon cops find man asleep at the wheel in van with drugs, weapons

A Saskatoon man faced quite the wake-up call after police found him dozing behind the wheel of a van parked in the driving lane of a busy street.

Late Thursday night, city police responded to a report of a “suspicious vehicle parked in a driving lane” near the intersection of Eighth Street East and Broadway Avenue.

When officers arrived, they say the 30-year-old driver — the only person in the vehicle — was asleep at the wheel.

In the process of waking him up and arresting him, they found an imitation handgun, two knives, brass knuckles, bear spray, a baton, methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, cannabis, a glass pipe and cash.

He now faces six charges of weapons possession, two charges of possession of meth and cocaine, one charge of possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking and a charge of possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.
