After the successful execution of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, all eyes now lie on the upcoming fifth and sixth Avengers movies, Doomsday and Secret Wars. Marvel has already begun laying the groundwork for the singular antagonist, Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. With multiple movies on the horizon, the MCU has already confirmed the expected release date for the next two Avengers films

But Robert Downey Jr, who has essayed the beloved character of Iron Man before, isn’t the only returning member from the Avengers: Endgame family. Russo Brothers have also been recruited to direct the film and in an interview with Empire Online, the duo explained what motivated their comeback.

“Endgame was the end, and it took a little time for us to begin to think about it as something other than an end,” said Anthony Russo. Over the years, they’ve indulged in multiple conversations, worked through several ideas, and eventually, an Eureka moment happened. “We ended up stumbling upon an idea that activated all of us. You couldn’t see it coming until it came, and once it came it was like, ‘Well, that’s a story we need to tell,’” Russo added.

Avengers: Doomsday, which is to replicate the Infinity War-style peak of this current MCU phase, has already been delayed by a year with a new release date postponed to May 2026. It will be followed by Secret Wars in May 2027.
