Moana 2 brings to fans a new sea adventure featuring the female protagonist where she breaks the curse of the evil god Nalo and reconnects with oppressed islanders. She’s no longer a clueless teenager anymore, instead, Moana an established Wayfinder is crowned Tautai here. Unlike the last time, she had her father, Village Chief Tui’s blessing while embarking on the new quest with her gang of misfits including ship-building expert Loto (Rose Matafeo), tapestry and history expert Moni (Hualā Chung) farmer Kele (David Fane), and her animal sidekicks.
The sequel concludes with Moana and her crew along with Maui the demi-god lifting the island of Motufetu to break the curse and free oppressed islanders. And if you thought that was the end of Moana’s tale, you’re wrong. There’s more to come and the movie’s end credit scene set up a perfect foundation for it.
What happened in the end credits?
Well, viewers were introduced to Nalo, a formidable demigod who controls storms and weather. In the film, Matangi, a bat-lady-like villain, who had been acting in Nalo’s stead, sneakily helps Maui and Moana to break Nalo’s curse to gain freedom. Unfortunately, she hasn’t been freed from Nalo’s captivity.
In the end credit, Nalo had her bound in his lighting wire. The extra glimpse also marks the return of Tamatoa, the gigantic crab villain from the original film. He is set to team up with Nalo and Matangi to exact revenge on Moana and Maui.
Also, Nalo concludes the film by teasing “This is just the beginning” thereby setting up the stage for a potential third film.
