Between the six games played by three University of Saskatchewan teams this weekend, there were only two wins, one from the men’s hockey team and the other from the men’s volleyball team.
Taking on the host Alberta Golden Bears on Saturday night in men’s hockey, the Huskies trailed 1-0 after the first period, but goals from Ben Tkachuk and Josh Pillar in the second gave them a 2-1 lead heading into the final 20 minutes.

In the third, the Golden Bears added a pair of their own goals, but they were outpaced by the Dogs who scored three, with Pillar recording his second of the night and Carter Stebbings and Justin Ball each picking up their first to give Saskatchewan the 5-3 win.
Jordan Kooy made 25 of 28 saves in net for the Huskies, while Tyler Palmer stopped 21 of 25 for Alberta.
The night before, the two teams were tied 1-1 after the second period, but the Golden Bears added three more in the third period compared to Saskatchewan’s one to claim the 4-2 victory.
Trevor Wong and Chantz Petruic had the Huskies goals in that game.
In net, Roddy Ross made 24 saves on 27 shots for Saskatchewan, while Ethan Kruger went 18 for 20 across the ice.
With a 10-4-0 record, the Dogs are second in the Canada West East Division.
Staying on the ice, the Huskies women’s team hosted their Alberta counterparts, the Pandas, for a pair of games, falling in both of them as they were outshot by more than double in both meetings.
McKenna Bolger scored the lone goal for Saskatchewan at 19:07 in the first period on Saturday, but Alberta scored twice in the second period to take a 2-1 lead that would carry them through to the final whistle.

In that game, Colby Wilson made 29 saves on 31 shots for the Huskies and Misty Rey stopped 10 of 11 shots for the Pandas.
It was a 3-0 shutout on Friday night, as Alberta scored once in the second period and twice in the third.
Emma Backman had 30 saves on 33 shots for the Saskatchewan, while the Panda’s Grace Glover picked up the shutout win by stopping all 14 of the shots she faced.
The Huskies are still searching for their first victory of the season, and hold a 0-10-0-4 record.
At home on the volleyball court, the men’s team took on the Manitoba Bisons, pulling out a 3-2 victory on Saturday night.
In that game, the two teams went back-and-forth across the first four sets, with the Huskies winning the first set 25-23 and the third set 25-22, while the Bisons won the second 25-21 and the fourth 25-18, forcing a decisive fifth set that the Huskies won 15-12.
On Friday night, Saskatchewan was on the opposite end of the five-set game, losing 2-3 (22-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20 and 14-16).
Isaiah Mamer led the Huskies in kills on both nights, earning 22 on Friday and another 14 on Saturday.
With the split results, Saskatchewan’s record is now 4-4 and they sit sixth in Canada West.

High school volleyball season comes to an end
The final four provincial high school volleyball championships took place this weekend with the boys’ 1A through 4A divisions in action.
In 1A, Rouleau defeated Annaheim 2-0 (25-18 and 25-23), while Saskatoon Christian School claimed the 2A title by defeating Harvest City 2-1 (19-25, 25-21 and 15-7), Esterhazy swept Regina Christian School 2-0 (25-18 and 25-19) to win 3A and Moose Jaw Central won 2-0 (25-18 and 25-20) over Humboldt in 4A.
