Love Next Door’s lead couple Bae Seok-ryu (Jung So-min) and Choi Seung-hyo (Jung Hae-in) jumped from childhood friends to dating era and now proposal within a week. It has been nothing less than a roller coaster ride to watch their chemistry bloom on screen. This Netflix show, highly marketed as a rom-com, has hidden layers as it attempts to highlight multiple issues from parenting, and mental health to dealing with work-life stress and tragedy.

Since its inception, fans have called ‘Love Next Door’ a combination of all 2024 K-dramas. It has Doctor Slump’s quits job trope, Welcome to Samdal-ri’s childhood friends to lovers trope, and Lovely Runner’s main lead wanted to be a swimmer but couldn’t trope. If you’re watching the show, we’re sure you must have gotten multiple deja vu from Lovely Runner.

Remember Ryu Sun-jae had to quit swimming after an injury? Likewise, Seung-hyo also bids adieu to his swimming career right before reaching the Olympics due to a severe injury in a car accident. Moreover, Sun-jae and Im Sol bury a time capsule in Lovely Runner and so do our leads in Love Next Door.

If that wasn’t enough, in the latest episodes released over the weekend, Seung-hyo fails horribly at proposing to Seok-ryu. And the scene reminded K-drama fandom about how everything went wrong when Sun-jae decided to propose to Im-sol in Love Runner:

But worry not our hero in Love Next Door redeems himself after a heartfelt confrontation with Seok-ryu. Their love story is only going to move upward from here and fans are loving it:

Love Next Door will premiere its finale episodes this weekend on Netflix.
