Ammar, born in Dubai with roots in Aleppo, Syria, a dentist by profession, formed a strong connection with Karma, hailing from Tunisia, and a full-time performer. The pair hit it off immediately and were also the first couple to be engaged on ‘Love is Blind, Habibi‘. While it looked like they would get married, unfortunately, they parted ways in the show’s sixth episode. The reason? Karma called it quits after Ammar told her not to pursue a dancing career.

The ex-couple now came face-to-face in the reunion episode and Karma called him out for his double standards. She said, “I was there was more respect and less emotional outburst. Especially since I noticed a serious double standard.”

“I’d like to ask Ammar. Do the beliefs you hold apply to everyone in your view? Or do they apply only to you and not to us? For example you appeared topless in front of the camera and looked amazing. Is this acceptable for you and not for a girl to dance?” In response, Ammar said that he’s not against dancing but when someone wants to get married, sacrifices must be made.

“The background I’m talking about is the norm across the entire Middle East. We’re not talking about a country or just us Arabs. It’s beyond that. Our society apposes dancing,” added Ammar. He went on to add that he can’t accept his wife dancing.

Ammar and Karma’s journey in ‘Love is Blind, Habibi’: Ammar and Karma connected over their shared love for music. The duo started on a good note. Things went downhill after Ammar expressed disapproval of Karma continuing her passion for dance after their marriage.

He told Karma, “If you were a painter and had an exhibition I’d love to see your work. I’d be proud of you. If you would be dancing… I wouldn’t even go in the first place.” After Ammar shared his thoughts on Karma’s love for dancing, she met him at a restaurant to tell him that things can’t go forward between them. The reason? Karma told Ammar that she can’t give up dancing as it’s an important part of her life.

Ammar questioned Karma for ‘sacrificing’ their relationship for dancing, but she made it clear that her decision will not change. Karma decided to stay true to herself and not give up dancing. The pair went their separate ways.

All ‘Love is Blind, Habibi‘ episodes are available on Netflix.
