An 18-year-old man from Brampton who was recently charged in a home invasion and a bank robbery in the GTA has been identified as a suspect in a shooting that happened outside southwestern Ontario’s largest emergency department in December, London police say.

London police have laid charges against Doneil Josiah Levy-Porter, but said Wednesday night the suspect is currently in police custody in another jurisdiction on unrelated charges.

The brazen shooting happened outside London Health Science Centre’s (LHSC) Victoria Hospital around 2:30 a.m. on Dec. 14., when a truck pulled into the emergency room bay, smashing into a cement pillar. A second vehicle arrived and multiple shots rang out, police said.

The incident left people scrambling for cover and staff inside shaken and renewed calls for better safety measures at LHSC. It prompted a Code Silver to be called in the hospital, letting staff know there was someone with a weapon or active shooter on the property.

The hospital’s interim head David Musyj, vowed to install metal detectors outside the emergency department in the aftermath of the shooting.

Levy-Porter is charged with the following:

  • Attempt to commit murder using a firearm.
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.
  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance.
  • Discharge a restricted firearm or a prohibited firearm in a reckless manner.
  • Fail to comply with release order.
  • Fail to comply with undertaking.

He remains in custody in another jurisdiction, London police have not specified where that is.

According to York Regional Police, Levy-Porter was arrested on Jan. 10, following an investigation into an armed home invasion in Vaughan. The accused was also charged in relation to a bank robbery on Dec. 23, 2024, in Markham, York police said.

In a media release outlining his arrest on Jan. 10, York Police said Levy-Porter was also on three release orders for previous unrelated and unspecified charges.
