Kingsville residents joined many others at Remembrance Day ceremonies throughout Essex County Monday to honour veterans who fought for Canada.
The ceremony at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 188 featured prayers by Rev. John van Omme, President James Raposo reading the branch’s mission statement, the laying of dozens of wreaths by community groups and Kingsville residents, the reading of the names of residents who died in the wars, a 21-gun salute and the releasing of the peace bird by John Delicata, Kingsville’s oldest living veteran at 100.

Canadians fight to “save freedom for future generations,” Raposo said. “With … deepest gratitude, we venerate all of those who sacrificed their lives, giving up their futures for us. We revere those who served, fought, survived. Many of whom returned, injured in body, mind and spirit. Most of them returned and picked up the pieces of the civil lives and carried on without complaint.”
