After vehemently denying Kim Soo-hyun never dated Kim Sae-ron, their agency Gold Medalist has retracted their words. In a new statement, they confirmed the duo dated from the summer of 2019 to the fall of 2020, when Sae-ron had already become an adult, refuting underage dating claims.

Amid this a letter dated 2018, sent by Kim Soo-hyun to Kim Sae-ron from the military is going viral on social media. In loose English translations, it is suggested Soo-hyun said “Miss You” to Sae-ron, while reflecting on how he wants to spend his future. “It was a good weekend. A good weekend for writing. A good weekend for wondering if I should hurry back to work as soon as I get discharged. A good weekend for thinking about traveling—somewhere close like Japan, or far away like Northern Europe,” he said.

Kim Soo-hyun reportedly continued, “The younger guys here keep pulling me into their flow, and now I’m even thinking, ‘Should I go back to school and finish my degree?” Wait, would that mean we’d end up going to school together?”

Gold Medalist addressed the letter in their new statement clarifying, “The expression ‘I miss you’ is a light-hearted expression used by soldiers to their close friends. However, Garo Sero Insitute is claiming that the two had been dating since 2015, using photos that were taken after Kim Sae-ron was an adult and claiming they were from when she was a minor. They used the postcard sent to Kim Sae-ron after the two were dating to strengthen their claim that the military letter was also a love letter. Kim Sae-ron’s nickname, Saero Nero, that she used publicly since 2016 was made to seem like it was a nickname that only the two used between each other.”

Kim Sae-ron’s aunt claimed Soo-hyun began dating Sae-ron when she was 15, a minor, and he was 27. “Their claim that these photos were taken in 2016 have no grounds. This is because the two were not dating at that time,” the agency added.

Reflecting on the heavy criticism thrown at Soo-hyun’s way, Gold Medalist added, “While their relationship was a private matter between two consenting adults, we acknowledge that, as a beloved public figure, Kim Soo-hyun is subject to public scrutiny. We take such criticism seriously and with humility. However, due to Garo Sero Institute’s report, a plethora of false claims and misinformation is spreading as if they are true.”

Kim Sae-ron was found dead at her apartment in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, on February 16, shockingly, the date coincides with Kim Soo-hyun’s birthday.
