Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga starrer ‘Joker: Folie à Deux‘ is finally in the theatres. The Todd Phillips’ directorial film has received a mixed response from the audience. As the musical thriller keeps making headlines, Joaquin has revealed how he convinced Phillips to make a sequel.
Speaking on the ‘Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso’ podcast, Phoenix shared that he photoshopped Joker into classic movie posters to persuade Todd to create a sequel. The actor said, “I mocked up like ten different posters of famous movies putting Joker in all of them. Rosemary’s Baby, Yentl, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, The Godfather, like every classic film.”
Joaquin added that he worked with an amazing on-set photographer who took photos of him and then photoshopped them into the movie posters. “I gave them to Todd and the joke was ‘put Joker’ in space’, ‘put Joker on ice skates’. But the ‘Yentl’ poster, like you see that and you’re like, ‘Yeah, that should be made.’ So I was hoping that that would inspire some ideas in Todd,” added Phoenix.
During the candid conversation, Joaquin revealed that he realized a sequel was needed when he was working on the first part. Now, four years after ‘Joker’ was released, its sequel is here.
In ‘Joker: Folie à Deux‘, Joaquin returns as Arthur Fleck aka Joker, and Lady Gaga joins him as Harley Quinn. In the second part, Arthur meets Harley at the Arkham State Hospital where he is awaiting trial for his crime.
