Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga starrer musical sequel of Joker has created a significant buzz online owing to its release on Wednesday, October 2. With the return of Arthur Fleck, a loner-loser in Gotham City, Joker: Folie à Deux also introduces Lady Gaga as Harleen “Lee” Quinzel aka Harley Quinn. She is a compulsive liar and a deeply disturbed psychiatric patient who meets Fleck in a music therapy class.
They fall deeply in love with each other, but Lee is more in love with Joker than Fleck. The plot surrounds a defence lawyer trying to convince the jury his client is psychologically disturbed by his abusive upbringing and that he deserves hospital treatment on the grounds of diminished responsibility. However, the district lawyer raises an objection, denying that Fleck is mad and that he deserves the death penalty.
In between the courtroom drama is blooming Fleck and Lee’s toxic love story, who in their shared insanity and delusional plan to ‘Make a mountain out of a tiny hill.’ With musical performances of the leads lacing the storyline, Joker: Folie à Deux captures a devastating time in the chapter of Gotham city, where the vulnerable suffer and the rich live it large. But leave it to the internet to find hilarity in any situation. The release of the movie has prompted funny memes to explode on the internet.
