Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga starrer ‘Joker: Folie à Deux‘ is one of the most talked-about films right now. The Todd Phillips directorial is set to release in a few days and the excitement to see Joker and Harley Quinn onscreen is sky-high among fans. Ahead of the film’s release, Todd revealed details about how Lady Gaga came onboard for the upcoming sequel.

The filmmaker shared that he produced Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s 2018 film ‘A Star Is Born‘ so it ‘wasn’t impossible to send her a text’ and talk about the upcoming Joker sequel. Phillips further mentioned that the singer kept popping into his head when he was writing the sequel.

Todd and screenwriter Scott Silver went back and forth over the idea of casting Gaga as Harley Quinn, but when Phillips officially said her name, Silver remembered agreeing that it felt ‘perfect’. Todd went on to add that he wanted the singer to feel comfortable saying yes or no when it came to the movie. Gaga said yes and everything worked out smoothly.

Furthermore, Phillips recalled meeting Lady Gaga for the first time along with Joaquin Phoneix. He said, “I remember we went out to Malibu where she was, and we had a meeting with her and we talked to her. It was really kind of amazing. There’s something about somebody like Lady Gaga. It’s on a different level as an actor.”

Joker: Folie à Deux‘ posters and trailers have already given fans a glimpse of Gaga’s performance as Harley Quinn. Fans can’t wait to see more of it.

The upcoming sequel picks off where the first part ended. Arthur Fleck is locked in a psych ward where he meets Harley Quinn. The duo then embark on sinister adventures. ‘Joker: Folie à Deux‘ is slated to be released on October 4, 2024.
