LaSalle’s newest snowplow has a wintry official nickname thanks to the clever students at Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School.

The Grade 1-2 French immersion class was the winner of the town’s “Name the Snowplow” contest, coming up with Jack Frost as the moniker.

“This is the second year that we have held this contest,” said Mark Beggs, LaSalle’s manager of roads and parks. “We wanted to make it a fun contest all around by involving the local schools, holding the voting at a unique town event that could feature the snowplow and congratulating the winning students with a school visit.”

Members of the public works department, along with Jack Frost the snowplow, paid a visit to students on Wednesday to congratulate the class on winning the naming contest.

The students had a chance to check out the new plow, sit in the front seat, and even enjoy some sweet treats dispensed from the snow-clearing machine.

Voting and the announcement of the official new name took place at the LaSalle Truck or Treat event at the Vollmer Complex on Oct. 26.

“Seeing the kids smiling faces is why we chose this exciting way to name the plow again this year,” Beggs said.
