Instagram is developing a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature designed to allow users to creatively transform their videos. This AI-driven video editing tool is based on Meta’s Movie Gen AI model, an initial research initiative capable of generating videos from textual prompts.

Rather than enabling users to create videos from the ground up, this feature will enhance existing videos that feature real individuals captured by cameras. Users will have the ability to modify various aspects of their videos, including outfits, backgrounds, and even their overall appearance.
Adam Mosseri, the Head of Instagram, previewed this new feature in a Reel, where he demonstrated some of its functionalities and explained its operation. It is important to note that this AI video editing tool is still in development, with Mosseri indicating that it may be released next year.
The demonstration showcased the tool’s capability to modify Mosseri’s clothing, adorn him with a gold chain around his neck, and even feature a hippopotamus swimming in a pool in the background.
Furthermore, the tool demonstrated the ability to blend effects, creating the illusion that Mosseri was positioned alongside a snowy mountain or within a desert landscape.
In the video caption, Mosseri revealed that the AI video editing tool is driven by Meta’s Movie Gen AI model, which was initially launched in October. This multi-modal model features four primary functions: video generation, personalized video generation, precise video editing, and audio generation.
It is also capable of synchronizing audio with video generation to produce seamless video content. At present, this tool is not available to the general public.

Mosseri conveyed his excitement in the caption, stating, “I’m super excited about Movie Gen, our early AI research model that will let you change nearly any aspect of your videos with a simple text prompt. Hoping to bring this to Instagram next year.”
