Hundreds of people participated in the Krishna river-crossing competition, an annual event organised by the Aqua Devils Welfare Association, in Vijayawada on Sunday, February 2.

Inaugurating the competition, Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Rammohan Rao congratulated the association on having completed 25 years of the event. “Swimming keeps one’s body fit. It is surprising to see so many elderly people participating in the competition,” he said.

The competition was held for people aged between 10 and 80. Participants came from Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, the association members said.

The competitions took off from the Durga Ghat and ended at Lotus food court on the other side of the river, covering 1.5 km.

The association trains 300 people for a month, out of which around 180 take part in the event. The members thanked the officials of the Police Department and NDRF in overseeing the smooth conduct of the event.

Certificates to handed over to the participants in three days.
