Google is reportedly developing a revised layout for the Play Store that aims to simplify the process of installing applications on smartphones. At present, users are required to scroll back to the top of an app’s page to initiate the installation.

A recent code analysis from a new version of the Google Play Store suggests that the company may redesign the headers for app listings, ensuring that the install button remains accessible even when users are viewing lengthy app descriptions.

Android Authority has identified code in Play Store version 43.1.19 that indicates Google plans to prevent the header from disappearing during the scrolling of an app’s description, which is the current functionality. Consequently, both the app’s name and the Install button will stay visible at the top of the screen while users read the description.

The feature is currently under development; however, the publication indicates that it has successfully activated the feature for testing purposes. When enabled, the new header displays the app’s name in the top left corner of the screen, while the Install button is positioned on the right side, accompanied by a drop-down menu that allows installation of the same app on other compatible devices.

This revamped header for app listings on the Google Play store may prove advantageous for developers who offer comprehensive descriptions, as the current layout often obscures the download button during scrolling. Both developers and users stand to gain from a header and install button that remain consistently visible.

According to the report, an Update button will replace the Install button for applications already installed by a user, facilitating quick access to the button after reviewing the changelog for apps awaiting updates.
