Goblin, also known as Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, is highly considered a pioneering K-drama, which set the standard exceptionally high for the genre of fantasy. Nevertheless, only a scant few others have managed to provide a similar experience since its release in 2016, making the show one of its kind.
Goblin has amassed a global fanbase for its strange yet beautiful script, being a story of love, loss, and life, the cinematography, the bromance of the main leads Gong Yoo and Lee Dong-wook, and last but not least its unforgettable OST ‘Stay With Me’ by EXO’s Chanyeol and Punch.
In a historic development, the soundtrack surpassed 500 million views on YouTube, thereby becoming the first-ever K-drama OST to bag the milestone. The record was achieved on Sunday, October 6, 2024, after seven years of its release.
The plot of the show revolves around Kim Shin (Gong Yoo), a Goblin with the curse of an immortal life, whose life changes after he meets a cheerful high school student, Ji Eun-tak (Kim Go-eun). She claims to be his human bride and thereafter begins a fantasy romance between the mortal and the immortal. But Grim Reaper Wang Yeo (Lee Dong-wook) may be the end of their fateful love story as he is employed to take Eun-tak’s life.
Goblin is available to stream on Netflix.
