Based on the 1965 novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, ‘Dune‘ was released in 2021. Starring Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya, it performed well at the box office. Following the success of the first part, ‘Dune: Part II‘ released last year. It also emerged as a box office hit. Now, fans are waiting for the third film, ‘Dune: Messiah‘, and director Denis Villeneuve has revealed that he’s already working on it.
In a recent interview with Deadline, Villeneuve gave an update, saying, “I’m in the writing zone right now”, adding that he will “go back behind the camera faster than I think.”
Denis added that the upcoming story will “finish the Paul Atreides arc”.

DUNE 2 was incredible. So many impressive shots, battle sequences, one-on-one fight scenes. The cast is perfect together. All 2.5+ hrs feel necessary. Captivating from start to end. I already thought Part 1 was special, but wow that was everything I wanted it to be. pic.twitter.com/GDNTmpB9xv

When will the movie go on floors? “2026,” said Villeneuve before adding that “these movies take a lot of time to be made, so it’s best not to say it out loud when I might shoot.”
Talking about more about the upcoming project, Villeneuve said, “I think it’ll be a great idea to do something completely different. The story takes place like twelve years after where we left the characters at the end of Part Two. Their journey, and their story is different this time, and that’s why I always say that while it’s the same world, it’s a new film with new circumstances.”
Earlier this month, Denis shared that ‘Dune: Messiah‘ will be his last ‘Dune‘ movie. The filmmaker is ready to leave the Dune universe.
