It is no secret that Elon Musk made money differently than most billionaires. Instead of one amazing idea, he has several good ones. And instead of a bunch of clever and safe investments, he made just a few spectacularly risky ones. But there was a method to his madness, even if it wasn’t apparent to many at the time, the sum total of those bets has made Musk the richest person on the planet Earth.

His ideas always have world-altering effects be it privately launching space missions or generating electric vehicle titans, thereby leaving the auto industry desperate to catch up. But not many know Elon went through his fair share of ups and downs. On the third day of the 1 billion summits in Dubai, Elon’s mother Maye recalled the time when she raised her kids in a one-bedroom apartment after her divorce.

“My kids put up with everything I did and every time I moved, they helped me so much. Elon was my encyclopedia, and of course, my tech expert,” said Maye, as per Khaleej Times. She insisted that everything that is billionaire son does is meant to make a good change.

“He doesn’t do things to challenge the status quo. He does things to do good. For example, when he launched Zip2, it was online door-to-door directions. And I thought that was great because I had big maps I had to use to get to places. And then he started PayPal and he said you’ll be able to send money by email. Then he went on to Tesla to make electric cars,” she continued.

Maye insisted that Elon has a way of sensing future, “When he launched the cybertruck, he said it would save the lives of people stuck in forests, top of mountains or the middle of the ocean. Now he is supplying cybertrucks at the fires in Los Angeles. He sees the future. He sees where there is a need and he goes against everybody else to get out there and work on it.”

Most importantly, Maye claimed Elon and her other children who are millionaires were never motivated by money. “They never wanted to make money. They always wanted to do good. They did good, invested in their own companies and the companies did well,” she said.

Elon Musk is currently the richest man in the world, followed by Jeff Bezos and Bernard Arnault & family.
