The Sri Sathya Sai district police on Wednesday began drone surveillance in the rural and forested areas surrounding Puttaparthi.

Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Ratna said the operation aims to monitor and prevent illegal activities such as public consumption of alcohol, gambling and the ganja trade.

The surveillance focused on remote and uninhabited locations such as Jagaraju Palli, Kappala Banda, Venkata Garipalli and Kotlapalli. Extensive monitoring is being done in areas surrounding Paipalle, Battalapalli and the gardens near the Puttaparthi forest.

The SP termed this initiative a critical step toward eradicating anti-social behaviours and ensuring a safe environment for residents.

Drones provide an effective way to monitor vast and otherwise inaccessible areas, allowing the law enforcement to take prompt action against offenders, she said.
