In an unfortunate turn of events, Doc Harris aka Gilbert Auchinleck , the legendary narrator known for his works in the English dub of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, passed away on October 5, 2024. The popular voice actor and radio personality died at age 76, reportedly after a minor surgery he underwent last month. Older anime fans would recognize him for his popular outro, “We’ll see you next time on Dragon Ball Z.”

Ian James Corlett, the voice actor of Goku, paid an emotional tribute to his longtime friend in an Instagram post, turning back pages to their younger days. “Gil was best known as Doc Harris. A Canadian radio superstar and fixture on Vancouver airwaves in its long forgotten heyday. Dragonball fans will remember him as the OG narrator of the ‘Ocean Dub’ days. Doc was a HUGE force in my early career. More than just a DH, he lived and breathed music. He also had a keen eye for movies,” he wrote.

Recalling a memory he might regret for a lifetime, Ian added, “This summer, when we were back in vancouver, I must’ve said AT LEAST 10 times ‘I MUST see Doc on this trip, I owe him so much … well, at least a lunch!’ And now it’s too late. Sorry Doc. I owe you one. Actually I owe you a hundred lunches. RIP DOC.”

Dragon Ball Z fans have also flooded social media to honour Doc Harris’ legacy. A user on X wrote, “No one was doing it like Doc Harris, his voice will forever be iconic. Rest in peace goat.”

Another added, “What an utter legend, he’ll absolutely be missed.”

One more recalled his popular catchphrase, “RIP ‘NEXT TIME ON DRAGON BALL Z.’”

Besides Dragon Ball Z, Doc Harris was also known for his contributions to animated series and video games including, Monster Rancher, Hulk: The Video Game, Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space, Aegis Defenders, and more.
