‘Wait..what?’ were the two words that crossed my mind ample times during Doctor Stranger in the Multiverse of Madness. The sentiment especially went strong around the second act of the film, when Benedict Cumberbatch’s dimension-hoping Sorcerer Supreme encounters some very familiar yet unexpected characters.

Now, every Marvel fan is wondering how In the Multiverse of Madness will the Marvel Cinematic Universe set up Doctor Stranger’s future. Amid this, actor Benedict Cumberbatch has finally confirmed that a third standalone Doctor Strange movie is in early development.

In an interview with Variety, Cumberbatch confirmed, “They are very open to discussing where we go next. Who do you want to write and direct the next one? What part of the comic lore do you want to explore so that Strange can keep evolving? He’s a very rich character to play. He’s a complex, contradictory, troubled human who’s got these extraordinary abilities, so there’s potent stuff to mess about with.”

Meanwhile, in the MCU lineup, Anthony Mackie will next face a Brave New World in Marvel’s new Captain America. The film continues the journey of Mackie’s Sam Wilson, who assumed the mantle of Captain America after Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021). Now, Mackie headlines his own Cap movie, which is set to hit the theatres in February 2025.
