Christmas parades, light festivals light up Essex County on Saturday

Christmas light shows open throughout Essex County this weekend.
In Kingsville, the Fantasy of Lights opens Saturday with a Santa Claus Parade at 5 p.m. followed by the opening ceremonies at Lakeside Park.
The Kingsville BIA will be collecting canned goods, dry goods and monetary donations for the Kingsville Food Bank at the ‘Christmas at the Carnegie’ event at the Carnegie Arts and Visitors Centre before the parade and Kingsville firefighters will collect food and donations along the parade route.

In Amherstburg, the River Lights Winter Festival opens downtown at 5 p.m. Saturday. The night kicks off with a Super Santa Walk/Run through downtown. The tree-lighting ceremony starts at 6 p.m. at the clock tower with fireworks at 6:20 p.m. over the Detroit River.
After the fireworks, a festive movie will be shown at the Commissariat building at 6:45 p.m.
Harrow will hold a Christmas tree lighting event in the community lot at King and Victoria streets at 5 p.m. Saturday, accompanied by other events until 8:30 p.m.
LaSalle kicks off its Holiday Lights Heritage Nights on Nov. 22 at the LaSalle Civic Centre Nov. 22 with outdoor lights display from 5 p.m. daily.
And of course, Santa arrives at the Devonshire Mall on Sunday, Nov. 17, arriving by helicopter at 11 a.m. in the parking lot.
On Nov. 22, Christmas in Tecumseh starts at the Tecumseh Town Centre Park at 6 p.m. with a Santa Parade starting at Lacasse Park, ending at the town hall. Along with various activities for the family, donations of non-perishable food items, clothing and unwrapped gifts will be collected for Goodfellows.
On Nov. 30, Leamington holds its annual Christmas parade at 6 p.m. starting at the George Avenue Fairgrounds.
