The Vidhana Soudha police have registered a case against an unknown person who posing as a Lokayukta officer was allegedly calling government officials randomly, threatening them with disproportionate cases, and demanding money to drop the charges.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered an FIR under Sections 204 (personating a public servant), 308 (extortion), and 319 (cheating by personation) under BNS.
A few officials who received the calls and text messages approached the Lokayukta office to cross-check. According to the complaint filed by Lokayukta DySP, Basavaraj R. Magadam, they checked the number through Truecaller, which displayed the name ‘Lokayukta DySP’.
Further probe revealed the location as Shirol, a suburb in Maharashtra. The police are trying to track down the accused who is suspected to be in Mumbai targeting government officials in and around Bengaluru to extort money.
Woman revenue officer trapped
Meanwhile, the Ramanagara district Lokayukta officials on Wednesday trapped a woman district registrar for allegedly red handed while accepting a bribe from a farmer for an official favour .
The accused officer , M Sridevi, sub Registrar, Ramanagara district and her associate Kiran DR, a former contract employee turned tout had allegedly demanded ₹ 33,000 from Sumanth Gowda from Malurin Channapattana taluk to get his ancestral property registered in his name. According to the officials , Kiran was working at the office despite his contract as an outsourced employee having expired.
Unable to pay the bribe, Sumanth Gowda complained to Lokayukta who laid a trap and arrested Kiran and Sridevi charging them under various sections of the PC Act . The two have been remanded in judicial custody till February 27.
