Brad Pitt issued a statement after five people were arrested for impersonating him online. Through his representative, Brad issued a warning related to scams happening under his name. The Hollywood star is not on social media.
Brad’s representative told PEOPLE, “It’s awful that scammers take advantage of fans’ strong connection with celebrities, and this is an important reminder to not respond to unsolicited online outreach, especially from actors who have no social media presence.” Brad enjoys great popularity worldwide.
Brad’s statement comes two days after Spain’s Ministry of the Interior announced that five have been arrested and more are under investigation for posing as the actor online. The group of people who are involved in this allegedly scammed over $350,000 (over AED 12,85,560) from two women online. The scammers posed as ‘Brad Pitt’ to deceive fans, promising romantic relationships and demanding the women to transfer money for investment projects. According to the ministry, three people were arrested in November 2023, and two more in July of this year, with charges including fraud, money laundering, and forgery.
On the work front, Brad will be seen in Jon Watts’ ‘Wolfs‘, co-starring George Clooney. It will be released worldwide on Apple TV+ on September 27.
The actor also has ‘F1‘, directed by Joseph Kosinski. He plays the role of Sonny Hayes, a new member of the fictional APXGP team. The movie is slated to be released in 2025.
