Deepika Padukone will be seen in Rohit Shetty’s ‘Singham Again‘ and the recently dropped trailer gave a glimpse of her performance as a cop named Shakti Shetty. While many shared their excitement, a section of netizens trolled her for her accent.

Amid all the trolling, Deepika, in a new interview, recalled receiving criticism for her performance in her debut film ‘Om Shanti Om‘. The actress recalled audiences doubting her ‘talent and capabilities’, and mocking her accent and diction in the Shah Rukh Khan starrer. For the uninitiated, Deepika’s voice was actually dubbed by another artist in Farah Khan’s film.

As a part of the Live, Love, Laugh series, Deepika spoke to media mogul Ariana Huffington and opened up about dealing with ‘negativity’ during her debut film. The actress said, “When my debut movie Om Shanti Om released, there were quite a few bad reviews, but I specifically remember this one bad review which pushed me to work on myself. It spoke about my accent, my diction, my talent, and my capabilities.”

“Negativity is sometimes a good thing, it’s what you make of it. The largest picture is what do you do with that criticism, how do you look at it positively,” added Padukone.

With hard work and talent, Deepika has come a long way in her career. Her last film ‘Kalki 2898 AD‘ was a blockbuster. The actress’ upcoming film ‘Singham Again‘ also stars her husband-actor Ranveer Singh, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, and Tiger Shroff among others. Salman Khan is rumoured to make a cameo. The Rohit Shetty directorial film will be released on November 1, 2024.
