Musicians and admirers of saint-composer Thyagaraja paid tribute to his music at the Sri Thyagaraja Aradhana programme organised by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Tiruchi Kendra, in collaboration with the Infosys Foundation, Bengaluru, at Sri Raghavendra Swami Mutt in Srirangam on Sunday.

The event was inaugurated on by auditor Kalayana Raman. Bhavan’s Tiruchi Kendra director J.T. Chari, chairman Chandrakumar and senior officials were present.

The programme, in its 12th edition, saw the participation of over 60 leading Carnatic music exponents and 40 junior artistes, besides accompanists from Tiruchi assembling to render Pancharatna Kritis in unison. A large number of spectators gathered to watch the rendition, which lasted over two hours.

The Pancharatna kritis are five compositions in praise of Lord Rama by Thyagaraja and are considered to be ideal for group singing. The five kritis are Jagadanandakaraka (Nata), Dudukugala (Gowla), Sadhinchene (Arabhi), Kanakanaruchira (Varali) and Endaro Mahanubhavulu (Sri).

The celebration came to a close with a maha arathi.
