Actress Cassandra Peterson, popularly known for essaying the horror character Elvira, recounted one of her worst celebrity encounters with someone whose name rhymes with “Pariana Mande” at a recent fan event. Though she didn’t directly take her name, it was quite evident the Mistress of the Dark was taking shots at Ariana Grande, who will soon appear as the Good Witch Galinda in Wicked.

Peterson posted the clip of her narrating the story on Instagram wherein she claimed Ariana brought 20 guests to her show and wanted 21 tickets. “We gave her the tickets and she comes backstage and she asks if I can take pictures with all of her friends and relatives she brought. I take a picture with every single one of them, I sign autographs for every single one of them. Then I say to her, ‘Can we take a photo together?’ And she goes, ‘No, I don’t really do that,'” said Peterson.

The revelation led to the audience erupting in boos, to which the actress retorted, “I mean, come on. Then she left before my show started! All her relatives stayed, and she took off.” When Peterson’s alleged photo-snub story caught Ariana’s attention, she took to the comment section to apologise ‘sincerely’ but not before highlighting her reason to leave early.

“I’m so disheartened to see this. I actually don’t even remember getting the chance to meet you because I had an anxiety attack and to my memory, left before the rest of my family (this was around 7 years ago and at the time I was really not great with being in public crowds or loud places),” wrote Ariana.

The singer added, “But if I’m misremembering this moment, I sincerely apologize for offending you so. Thank you for being so nice to my mom, she told me how lovely you were (she might have different feelings about that now but i’ll talk to her… clearly, we all have our days!) Sending love always. You’ll always be our queen of halloween.”

Ariana Grande is gearing up for the release of Wicked, based on the broadway musical of the same name, which narrates the story of two witches of Oz: The misunderstood Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and the popular Galinda (Ariana Grande). They meet while attending Shiz University and develop an unexpected friendship. But can their bonds withstand everything from political corruption to a love triangle is the question of the hour.

The highly anticipated musical adaptation is locking horns with Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II on November 22. The stage musical, based on a Gregory Maguire novel, has been split into two parts for its big-screen debut. Wicked Part Two is expected to hit theatres in November 2025.
