Apple is expected to launch new models of the MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini featuring the M4 series of chips “this year,” as reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Gurman initially indicated that the announcement of these Macs would likely occur during a virtual event this October. However, his recent statements have become less specific regarding the timeline, now referring to the release as “in the coming weeks” and more recently as “this year.”

Regardless, it is evident that he anticipates the introduction of the first Macs featuring M4 chips before the end of 2024.

Apple last refreshed the MacBook Pro and iMac product lines during a virtual event held on October 30 of the previous year, while the Mac mini received its last update in January of the same year.

It is worth noting that the M4 chip is already present in the latest iPad Pro models, which were released in May. According to Geekbench 6 benchmark results, the M4 chip demonstrates up to 25% improved multi-core CPU performance compared to the M3 chip utilized in several current Macs.

The M4 chip can be configured with up to a 10-core CPU, in contrast to the 8-core CPU of the M3 chip. Apple has not yet revealed the higher-end M4 Pro and M4 Max chips.

Apple is anticipated to unveil refreshed 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models equipped with M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max chips in the near future, as reported by Gurman.

There have been no rumors regarding design alterations for these laptops this year, with enhancements such as an OLED display and a slimmer profile not expected until at least 2026.

The last significant redesign of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro occurred in 2021, while the most recent models featuring M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips were launched in October of the previous year.

Additionally, Gurman indicates that Apple intends to refresh the iMac with the M4 chip shortly, although no design modifications are anticipated for this desktop model.

Furthermore, Gurman predicts that the Mac mini will receive updates with M4 and M4 Pro chips in the coming weeks, and he notes that the desktop will undergo a redesign to achieve a size comparable to that of an Apple TV.

The new Mac mini is expected to forgo USB-A ports in favor of five USB-C ports, including two located on the front of the device.
