Meta’s recent demonstration of its Orion AR glasses has reignited interest in augmented reality eyewear. Additionally, a piece of rumored information has emerged, indicating that Apple may introduce its own device in this sector by 2026, featuring microLED technology.

This information comes from tipster @Jukanlosreve (as reported by Wccftech), who has a reliable history of leaks, albeit under a different alias.

According to the source, Apple “has not abandoned” its pursuit of microLED technology, which the company has been investigating for several years.

This technology merges the brightness of microLED with the profound blacks characteristic of OLED, rendering it superior to current display technologies. However, its manufacturing process is notably complex and costly, which explains the absence of such technology in smaller devices thus far.

The Apple Watch Ultra is expected to feature a microLED display, as indicated by a reliable source. Interestingly, there was no release of an Apple Watch Ultra 3 this year, leaving uncertainty regarding the model number Apple may introduce in the coming years.

Regarding the Apple Glasses, there have been multiple waves of speculation surrounding these augmented reality specifications in recent times. The previous projection for their launch was set for 2027, suggesting that Apple may have expedited the development of this new device.

Last year, reports indicated that the launch of Apple’s AR glasses had been postponed indefinitely, with a shift in focus towards a more affordable virtual reality headset. It is conceivable that Meta’s success with the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses has influenced Apple’s strategic direction in this area.
