Have you ever wished that your MacBook did not automatically boot up each time you open the lid or connect it to a power source? Apple has released an official support document that outlines the procedure to disable this feature.
This method serves as a workaround for advanced users, as there is no dedicated toggle available in the Settings. However, this is likely acceptable, given that power users typically seek a means to disable automatic startup.
In the support document, Apple details the necessary steps to modify this default behavior.
First, ensure that your Mac laptop with Apple silicon is running macOS Sequoia or a later version. Next, open the Terminal application, which can be found in the Utilities folder within your Applications folder. Enter one of the following commands in Terminal and press Return:
– To stop the startup when opening the lid or connecting to power: sudo nvram BootPreference=%00
– To stop the startup only when opening the lid: sudo nvram BootPreference=%01
– To stop the startup only when connecting to power: sudo nvram BootPreference=%02
When prompted, input your administrator password (note that Terminal will not display the password as you type) and press Return. Furthermore, if you wish to re-enable automatic startup when opening the lid, you can use this command in Terminal:
sudo nvram -d BootPreference
These instructions are beneficial for users who wish to alter the default behavior for various purposes. It is important to note that these steps do not prevent the MacBook from booting up entirely.
