Consequently, users of these models should contemplate upgrading to a newer machine as soon as possible. Apple’s obsolete and vintage list encompasses a diverse array of products, reflecting their respective life cycles.
As indicated by the company on its website, Apple designates a product as obsolete after it has ceased distribution for a period of seven years. This designation implies that the affected products will no longer receive updates from Apple, and the company will also discontinue its support services and the availability of parts necessary for the repair of these items.
Apple has officially classified several MacBook models as obsolete. The models included in this designation are as follows:
– 13-inch MacBook Air (2015)
– 13-inch MacBook Pro (2016, 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports)
– 13-inch MacBook Pro (2016, 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports)
– 15-inch MacBook Pro (2016)
– 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro (2015)
– 12-inch Retina MacBook (2016)
– 21.5-inch iMac (2015)
– 21.5-inch Retina 4K iMac (2015)
– 27-inch Retina 5K iMac (2015)
Nine Macs from 2015 and 2016 are now officially classified as obsolete, meaning Apple will not service them — while another three hang on under the label of vintage. By @WGallagher
