A recent report suggests that this model will incorporate a novel type of OLED display produced by a Taiwanese manufacturer. While this information remains unverified, there is a possibility that the iPhone 17 Air could be marketed as the iPhone 17 Slim. Below are the specifics regarding the iPhone 17 Air.
According to a report from DigiTimes, Novatek, a semiconductor company based in Taiwan, has announced its intention to commence mass production of OLED displays utilizing TDDI (touch and display driver integration) technology.
This innovative panel integrates the touch sensor layer with the display driver into a single component, aiming to enhance design efficiency and functionality. Production is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2025.
The report also suggests that Apple could potentially be one of Novatek’s initial clients, although this remains speculative. Neither company has confirmed whether Novatek’s display will be featured in the iPhone 17 Air. However, the production schedule and the expected release of the iPhone 17 Air in the fall of 2025 imply a possible connection.
A recent report has highlighted that the iPhone 17 Air, in conjunction with the iPhone 17, will feature a 120Hz refresh rate enabled by ProMotion technology. This represents a considerable improvement in display technology when compared to the existing iPhone 16 models, which are limited to a 60Hz refresh rate.
