A woman actor has filed an application before the Supreme Court seeking to implead as a respondent in the special leave petition filed by film producer Sajimon Parayil challenging a direction by the Kerala High Court to register First Information Reports (FIR) on the statements filed by those who had deposed before the K. Hema Committee report that studied the exploitation of women in the Malayalam film industry.

In her application filed on December 11, the actor pointed out that she has not received any calls from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the allegations of sexual harassment in the Malayalam film industry following the publication of the committee report.

She had given statements before the committee. Hence the applicant is reasonably suspicious that her statements have been tampered with, though the applicant is concerned also with her right to privacy. She also wishes to see that the effort she had taken during the committee sitting reaches its natural culmination, it said.

The actor stated that she would be affected by the final judgment, which may be rendered by the apex court in the special leave petition and sought the permission to implead as supplemental respondent.

The redacted version of the Hema Committee report was published on August 19, 2024.
