556 foreigners overstaying in Karnataka: Home Minister

Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara informed the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday that 556 foreigners have been illegally overstaying in 15 districts of the State for the last 20 years.

In reply to a question by Manappa D. Vajjal, Dr. Parameshwara said 323 foreigners have been staying illegally in Bengaluru city and 41 in Mangaluru. He said all police stations have been instructed to keep vigilance on illegal immigrants.

Leaders R. Ashok and Sunil Kumar (BJP) claimed that lakhs of foreigners, particularly from Bangladesh and Myanmar, have been overstaying in the State. Many foreign students from the African continent have been found illegally selling drugs and involving in crime, Mr. Ashok said.

The BJP members demanded more detailed discussion on the subject, which the Speaker agreed to.
